 Job/Person Summary

St Martin’s is a small school consisting of 4 classes located in the beautiful village of East End, only 5 miles from Newbury.  We are incredibly proud of our strong Christian ethos and distinctive family atmosphere which permeates all that we do in our school. The quality of relationships between staff, pupils, governors and parents at the school is excellent and behaviour was noted in our most recent Ofsted as ‘exemplary’.


St Martin’s is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and empathetic Learning Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a child in Y6 with an EHCP for physical and communication needs. The role will involve working 1:1 with the child, supporting their physical, emotional and academic progress. The successful candidate will support and facilitate communication for the child, as well as adapting and differentiating their learning and provision within our mainstream class. 

 

The successful candidate will:

  • be passionate about working with children and want to make a difference,
  • have a good understanding of safeguarding and always put the needs of the children first,
  • have an understanding of alternative methods of communication e.g. using Makaton signs and finger spelling, AAC devices including grid programme, writing and non-verbal communication,
  • have an understanding of physical disability and be prepared to support the growing independence of a child with complex physical needs,
  • truly believe in inclusion and that all children can succeed in school and be resilient, focused on finding solutions and have a ‘can do’ attitude,
  • be patient, cheerful and enthusiastic,
  • have a good understanding of how children learn and use this to support the child and others in their learning,
  • promote positive behaviour strategies and manage behaviour according to agreed procedures in a calm, positive and consistent manner,
  • have excellent literacy, numeracy and communication skills,
  • understand the importance of confidentiality in a school and maintain high levels of confidentiality,
  • be able to administer first aid and meet the medical needs of the children,
  • be able to support the organisation and the administration of health and safety protocols within school,
  • support, maintain and nurture our caring Christian community and ethos.
