Assistant Head Teacher

Job Introduction

Saxon Wood is a small primary Special School for children with a range of varying needs including learning difficulties, physical disabilities and complex medical needs. Behaviour at Saxon Wood is exemplary, which was validated in our latest Ofsted Report (May 2023) when the school was judged as Good with Outstanding for Behaviour and Attitudes. 

Our school has 44 pupils on role, with a high staff ratio - we have 27 class based staff spread across 5 small classes.

The leadership team consists of the Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher and School Business Manager. We are looking at expanding our team by recruiting an additional Assistant Headteacher to help us to continue to drive the school forward. 

Our pupils are truly amazing, and are an inspiration to all. We are dedicated in securing the best outcomes for our pupils as we implement our vision "Where learning has no limits".

We welcome candidates with experience in either a special school setting or mainstream setting - robust professional development will be promoted. 

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an exemplary practitioner with proven expertise across the primary age range and who is passionate in ensuring the best education for children with Special Educational Needs
  • Has the ability to model practice by effectively leading a class team and leading children's learning within a class for 3 days of the week
  • Can contribute to school improvement and embrace the implementation of change
  • Has the ability to lead and develop a team and is keen to develop leadership skills
  • Has excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff and parents
  • Is reflective, creative and resilient
  • Has knowledge and experience of teaching children with a range of special needs
