Job Introduction
We are seeking an ambitious, strategic, and highly motivated leader to join our senior leadership team as Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for leading a key priority area within our School Improvement Plan, in order to cover the maternity leave of our Deputy Headteacher. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced middle leader ready to make a whole-school impact and contribute to shaping the future direction of the school.
The successful candidate will take ownership of a designated improvement priority (e.g. Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Inclusion/SEND, Teaching and Learning, or Curriculum Development), driving measurable improvements and ensuring excellence in outcomes for all pupils.
Main responsibilities include:
• Lead and implement a strategic area of the School Improvement Plan, ensuring clear impact on pupil outcomes;
• Communicating the school’s vision compellingly and supporting the Headteacher’s strategic leadership;
• Contribute to the wider leadership and management of the school as a member of the Senior Leadership Team
• Support and challenge staff to deliver high-quality teaching and learning
• Supporting the Headteacher with the day-to-day management of the school – including managing staff and resources;
• Establishing policies for achieving these aims and objectives;
• Monitoring progress towards meeting the school’s aims and objectives;
• Monitor, evaluate, and refine provision within your area of responsibility using robust data and evidence;
• Develop and sustain a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and continuous improvement;
• Engage effectively with staff, pupils, parents, governors, and external partners.
We are looking for a candidate who:
• is an excellent classroom practitioner with a secure knowledge of teaching, learning and assessment in KS2 and a proven track record of raising standards;
• has successful leadership experience, ideally at middle or senior level;
• is able to inspire others and lead by example with integrity;
• demonstrates strong strategic thinking and the ability to lead change effectively;
• has a positive outlook and a friendly approach, with drive, passion and a clear vision which is in line with school’s ethos and values;
• is approachable and able to build professional relationships and communicate effectively with all stakeholders – staff, children, governors and parents;
• has a range of leadership qualities and can build on and develop the skills of staff across the school;
• is committed to inclusive education and improving outcomes for all learners;
• has excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• is resilient, reflective, and is driven by a moral purpose to make a difference.
The Assistant Headteacher will also have a timetabled teaching commitment, complying with the Teachers’ Standards and modelling best practice for others. At this point, the position is fixed term, from 1/9/26 until 31/08/27, however, there may be a possibility of this being extended, or made permanent.
