Assistant Headteacher

Job Introduction

This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring leader to join the leadership team of this thriving special school. Shepherds Down school is a large primary special school for children with a range of learning difficulties. The school currently has 190 pupils on roll, organised in 20 classes with over 100 staff. 

The school was judged Good in February 2023 and the school continues to be dedicated to securing the best outcomes for children and meeting the challenge of providing the best education for every child.

The leadership team consists of the Headteacher, deputy and two assistant headteachers. The school are looking to recruit an assistant headteacher to replace one of the existing assistants who will be leaving the school in July. We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an exemplary practitioner with proven expertise across the primary age range
  • Has the ability to model practice by effectively leading a class team and leading children’s learning within a class for 2/3 days of the week.
  • Has knowledge and experience of teaching children with a range of special needs, including ASD and or PMLD
  • Has the ability to work well in a team and is keen to develop leadership skills
  • Is able to support the implementation of change
  • Has good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff and parents.
  • Is Dedicated and passionate in ensuring the best education for children with special educational needs
  • Is reflective, creative and resilient
