Job Introduction
The Headteacher is seeking to recruit an experienced and talented individual with QTS/QTLS to work as part of the Senior Leadership Team to help deliver an outstanding and inclusive education for children with SEMH needs and associated difficulties. Cody Oaks is an impressive addition to an already well-resourced school site, and provides a unique opportunity in the north of the county.
Working in support of the Senior Leadership Team you will implement the pastoral strategy for Cody Oaks and lead associated support staff. You will demonstrate effective implementation and monitoring skills to identify impact of intervention and adapt accordingly to meet the changing needs of the learners at Cody Oaks. You will provide a safe and inclusive environment that supports learning, promotes respect, honesty, communication and team work. You will have a strong presence around the building throughout the day and lead on aspects of the daily operations.

- An ability to role model consistent high levels of teaching which support development of both the academic and SEMH needs of the child
- To contribute to both planning and delivery of curriculum within both KS3 and KS4
- An ability to create and lead initiatives to support student outcomes and comprehensively demonstrate impact
Who we are:
Samuel Cody School is a school for children with Moderate Learning Difficulties and associated needs. Our new Unit, Cody Oaks is a state of the art purpose built provision for children with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour. Cody Oaks opened in September 2022 to 45 students, we are now at full capacity with students 90 students from Year 5 to Year 11. This is a unique opportunity to work in a specialist environment with outstanding resources including therapy rooms, music, art, and technology and sports facilities. Visits to the site are encouraged.
Main Duties and Accountability:
- Ensure that there is a comprehensive range of therapeutic interventions in place to help students who may have suffered trauma and as a result exhibit attachment disorder and associated challenging behaviours.
- To implement, monitor and develop a therapeutic and equitable approach to behaviour which allows students to adapt and learn
- Monitor and measure behaviour across Cody Oaks and report effectively to the Headteacher and Cody Oaks Leads.
- Support tutors in the implementation of the behaviour policy to achieve consistency and confidence within the tutor and support team
- Report to the Headteacher, Cody Oaks Leads and Governors in regard to the quality of provision within Cody Oaks and adapt accordingly
- To develop and implement a reward system which incorporates the Cody Oaks therapeutic approach and establishes a positive culture which values good choices
- Lead aspects of the day to day operations of Cody Oaks. This includes, but not limited to: attendance, staff and student absence, parental communication, staff briefings, behaviour support
- To provide leadership in aspects of the curriculum agreed with the Headteacher and Cody Oaks Leads
- Work alongside the Headteacher and Cody Oaks leads to implement and support the School Development Plan
- To line manage support staff
- To work effectively with the full range of external agencies to ensure high quality support for children and families and to ensure early intervention.
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers of children in regard to their progress as well as their safety.
Other Duties:
- Be aware of and assume the appropriate level of responsibility for Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and to report any concerns in accordance with the School’s Safeguarding Policy.
- Comply with the School’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Work with due regard to the health and safety of themselves and others.
- Support the Cody Oaks Leads in the development and implementation of health and safety practices.
- Be conversant with and carry out relevant national legislation and school policies.
- Undertake teaching responsibilities, as directed by the Cody Oaks Leads
- Support students and parents or carers during students’ transition and reintegration.
- Undertake other duties consistent with the scope of the post and within the competence of the post-holder as directed by the Cody Oaks Leads.
Supporting the units ethos and culture:
- Ensure that the unit's vision is clearly articulated, shared, understood and acted upon effectively by all
- Work with the Cody Oaks Leads and Headteacher and staff to translate the vision into agreed objectives and operational plans which will promote and sustain improvement
- Ensure creativity, innovation and other transformational activities to raise standards in all areas.
- Develop and promote policies and procedures that ensure the unit’s ethos is reflected in all activities
- Promote the unit’s ethos and culture to the broader community to raise local understanding and expectations As this is a leadership post, the post holder may be required to work outside of normal hours on occasion (e.g. to attend meetings, parents evenings, etc.), with due notice.
Developing self and working with others:
- Treat students, staff and parents fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect to create a positive and inclusive culture.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of effective strategies and procedures for support staff induction, professional development and performance review.
- Celebrate the achievement of individuals and teams.
- Manage own workload and that of others to allow an appropriate work/ life balance.
- Regularly review own practice, set personal targets and take responsibilities for own personal development. Helping to Manage the Organisation
- Produce and implement clear, evidence based improvement plans and policies for the development of therapeutic interventions and pastoral care within the unit.
- Contribute to an organisational structure which reflects the unit’s values and enables management systems, structures and processes to work effectively in line with legal requirements.
- Engage in the performance management process.

You will create positive relationships with all stakeholders, being a leader that demonstrates high levels of organisation, initiative and support. You will be thorough in your implementation of behaviour, reward and attendance, monitoring and adapting strategy in line with data and outcomes. You will lead by example within your teaching practise and provide support for staff who are not meeting the high expectations
