Behaviour Support Teacher/Advisor

Job Introduction

We are looking for a highly skilled and passionate individual, who can work in partnership with the school's SENCo, to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs across the school. 

As a Behaviour Support Teacher Advisor, you will practice your teaching knowledge, skills, and experience to assist colleagues in developing effective strategies for successfully including pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in their classrooms. Your responsibilities will include supporting the inclusion of pupils with recognised emotional wellbeing and behavioural needs, providing expert advice on teaching methods and intervention strategies. You will also collaborate with and offer support to individual staff members or pupils to enhance behaviour management techniques and play a lead role in coordinating the provision for those currently not accessing a mainstream classroom. 

Ideally, we are seeking a qualified teacher, however we would also consider someone who is unqualified but has a successful track record in supporting children with additional social, emotional and mental health needs. You must have a strong knowledge of a variety of strategies for behaviour and a secure understanding of child brain development, particularly in relation to trauma, attachment and neurodiversity.  

The role is initially fixed-term, until 31st August 2025, however there is a strong possibility that it would become permanent beyond this. We would prefer someone who can work one full day a week (there is flexibility as to which day), but two mornings each week would also be considered. 

Provision for children with additional needs here at Wickham is very strong; our Ofsted Inspection in 2022 identified that, ‘A highly inclusive approach means that leaders and staff are committed to making sure that all pupils make good progress.’ Our staff team are incredibly committed, reflective and collaborative. The successful candidate would quickly become a key part of this team, contributing to the professional development of others and working closely alongside them to regularly review impact of intervention.
