Job Introduction
Are you practical, reliable, and take pride in creating a safe and welcoming environment?
We are looking for a friendly and proactive Caretaker to join our team, to work across both Anton Infant and Anton Junior schools. You will play a vital role in ensuring our pupils, staff, and visitors enjoy a well-maintained and secure school site.
We are going to need you to do the following:
- Undertake the daily opening of the school and ensure the premises are safe, secure, and ready for use. Maintain oversight of site security and fulfil key holder responsibilities.
- Support, maintain and promote an excellent health and safety culture, which means spotting hazards before they become the star attraction of the playground.
- Overseeing the work of our third-party contract cleaners and ensuring high standards of cleanliness across the school.
- Liaising with contractors on site and overseeing planned maintenance schedules.
- Working closely with staff to provide practical support across the school and to complete all health and safety risk assessments.
- Carrying out Legionella testing and maintaining accurate records.
- Ensuring the site complies with health and safety requirements and Hampshire County Council policies.
- Keeping the COSHH register up to date.
- Managing fire safety checks and procedures.
- Monitoring and maintaining heating, lighting and alarm systems.
- Undertaking general routine maintenance, minor repairs, improvements and regular site inspections around the school site, whilst maintaining accurate records.
- Overseeing waste management and recycling.
- Monitoring and arranging routine minibus maintenance checks and keeping our wheels turning.
- Ensuring cleaning supplies are well stocked, ordered and readily available, whilst managing the premises budget responsibly.
- Support the smooth running of school events and activities when required.
Previous experience in a similar role, or a good understanding of building maintenance, compliance, and site management, would be an advantage, but is not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and a willingness to learn.
At our school, every member of staff plays an important part in helping children thrive. As our Caretaker, you will be a valued member of a friendly and supportive team, making a real difference to the daily life of the schools. If you take pride in your work, enjoy solving practical problems, and want to contribute to a positive learning environment, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Applications will only be accepted on HCC application forms, accompanied by an equalities statement, which can both be found below. Alternatively for more information (including an application form and role profile), please email adminoffice@anton-inf.hants.sch.uk. Or call 01264 598546.
