Clerk to Governors

Job Introduction

We are looking to appoint an organised, flexible and reliable Clerk to the Governors to provide clerical and administrative support to our Governing Body.

 The role is part time, 138 hours per year. You will mainly work from home and will normally only need to attend school to clerk at meetings, there are 6 x 2-hour evening meetings per term.


The main duties of the Clerk are to - 


  • Prepare/agree an agenda in consultation with the Headteacher and governing body representative for each meeting, including the collation and distribution of all associated paperwork
  • Take minutes, draft minutes to be presented to Chair/Headteacher to check for factual accuracy, gain approval of the draft, amend, distribute and follow up action points
  • Respect confidentiality of governing body proceedings
  • Undertake statutory requirements of the role with regard to the management of the governing body’s membership, the election of the chair and maintaining attendance records for meetings
  • Advise governors and committee members of their terms of office
  • Advise Hampshire Governor Services of all changes in the membership of the governing body and the outcomes of the election officers
  • Provide guidance regarding procedural and constitutional matters to ensure the governing body works within the legal framework and HCC procedures
  • Attend relevant training and support meetings to keep up to date with changes in legislation and good practice

 

The successful candidate should have - 

 

  • excellent organisational ability
  • good level of IT literacy, particularly in word processing and email
  • good interpersonal skills
  • ability to meet deadlines and be flexible
