We are looking to appoint one or more enthusiastic and highly organised individuals to join our team as Clerk to the Local Governing Body (LGB). This is an exciting opportunity to support the governance and decision-making process at the heart of school leadership. You may be assigned to support one or more schools depending on your availability and flexibility and this would be discussed at interview.

Role Overview:
The Clerk to the Local Governing Body plays a key role in ensuring that the governing body functions effectively. This position involves providing administrative support to the governors, organising meetings, taking minutes, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. The Clerk will be expected to work closely with Headteachers, Chair of Governors, and other members of the LGB to support the strategic leadership of the schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the Local Governing Body, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and distributing papers.
  • Make arrangements for and clerk any statutory appeal committees/panels the local governing body is required to convene.
  • Attend all meetings of the Local Governing Body and its committees, taking accurate minutes and ensuring that actions are followed up.
  • Advise the governing body on governance issues, statutory requirements, and procedures.
  • Maintain records of attendance, governor training, and statutory documents.
  • Ensure the governing body complies with all relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Provide support in the recruitment and induction of new governors.
  • Manage and update the governance section of the school website, ensuring transparency and accessibility of information.

About You:
 You will be highly organised, proactive, and possesses excellent communication skills. A good understanding of governance structures, preferably in a school or educational context, and the ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail will be key.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • An understanding of the educational sector and governance practices (desirable but not essential).
  • Previous experience as a Clerk or in a similar administrative role is an advantage.
  • Discretion and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
