Cover Supervisor

Job Introduction

Hollywater School is a school for pupils aged 4-19 with complex learning needs. We are looking for a motivated and flexible Cover Supervisor to join our busy team.
   
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Providing short-term cover for teacher cover and release time, using existing plans and resources prepared by class teachers.
  • To supervise whole single classes of students using material planned by a teacher to engage students in learning activities. 
  • Establish productive working relationships with students acting as a role model and setting high expectations of work and behaviour. 
  • Assisting the inclusion of all children to ensure optimum learning opportunities.
  • Undertake breaktime and lunchtime duties
  • Provide feedback to the class teacher.
  • Upload evidence to Earwig linking work to curricular goals and EHCP targets.
  • Make appropriate use of equipment and resources. 
  • Comply with lesson plans and instructions from class teacher. 


PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Qualifications and experience

 

  • GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and Maths 
  • First-aid training, or willingness to complete it 

 

Experience

 

  • Experience leading lessons and learning activities 
  • Experience working with children or young people in a school environment or other educational setting, ideally in a primary setting
  • Experience working with children with SEND and medical needs 

 

Skills and Knowledge

 

  • Understanding of effective teaching methods
  • Knowledge of how to successfully lead learning activities for a group or class of children 
  • Knowledge of how to support learners in accessing the curriculum in accordance with the SEND code of practice 
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills 
  • Good organisational skills 
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils and adults
  • Knowledge of how to help adapt and deliver support to meet individual needs
  • Subject and curriculum knowledge relevant to the role, and ability to apply this effectively in supporting teachers and pupils
  • Excellent verbal communication skills 
  • Active listening skills 
  • The ability to remain calm in stressful situations 
  • Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children
  • Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning
