We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our dedicated team as the Deputy Head/SENCo. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for leading our inclusive and nurturing school environment, driving strategic improvements, and supporting the professional development of our staff.

Merdon is a two-form entry Junior School situated in the attractive residential area of Chandler’s Ford. The school is blessed with beautiful grounds and has a real focus on ‘Achieving the best for All.’ As a school, we are extremely proud of our children who are enthusiastic, engaged learners. We have a dedicated staff team, an active PTA and supportive parents. We aim to instil a lifelong love of learning for our pupils and to create and provide a whole school experience that builds pupils confidence and self-belief as they transition to secondary school and beyond.

The school is at an exciting point in its journey having just appointed a new Headteacher, who will be starting after Easter. We are looking for the right person to enhance the senior leadership team and support the new Headteacher in securing the very best for all our children from September 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership in curriculum development and implementation
  • Serve as the School SENCO, ensuring the effective implementation of our inclusive practices
  • Lead by example in promoting positive behaviour and a caring, supportive school culture
  • Deputise for the Headteacher, including safeguarding responsibilities as Deputy DSL
  • Collaborate with the Headteacher and Governing Body to shape the school's vision and drive continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a successful school leader, with a track record of driving school improvement
  • Excellent understanding of SEND provision and the ability to lead inclusive practices
  • Strong curriculum knowledge and the capacity to inspire and support staff
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with the school community
