Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)

Job Introduction

The Butts Primary School is looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic and dedicated adult to join our friendly and inclusive team as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA). We are looking for someone who has a warm and caring nature, is actively interested in supporting children’s social and emotional needs and is passionate about making a difference to the educational experience of all children.

At The Butts Primary School, we aim to secure outstanding outcomes for all of our pupils, and so are looking for an ELSA who:

  • Can provide the opportunity for children to explore their feelings, empower them to find their own resolutions building resilience and mindset for the future;
  • Is able to promote emotional wellbeing;
  • Can facilitate the child’s problem solving rather than solve the problem for them
  • Is able to empathise with children and have the capacity to work in a non-judgmental way
  • has the creativity to design activities and choose resources to facilitate sessions;
  • knows the importance of keeping children safe;
  • has excellent interpersonal skills and can form good, trusting relationships with children, parents and staff.
  • Is able to work independently, show initiative but also work as part of a team
  • Is able to remain calm under pressure
  • Has previous experience in a similar role

Ideally, we are looking for a trained ELSA, although full training would be given for the right candidate. The ELSA will be expected to work in close partnership with our Inclusion Leader (SENDCo) to deliver a range of ELSA programmes in order to facilitate the best possible outcomes for the children they work with. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 12:30 – 3:30 during term time.
