The Alton Schools work very closely together and 14 schools, plus a Children and Families Centre and Alton College, make up the Alton Cluster.
We are seeking a caring, compassionate and level-headed person to work alongside our Family Support Worker. You will need a strong safeguarding foundation. You will continue to develop strong and mutually respectful relationships between school, home and external agencies to enable educational opportunities for our children. Your work as a Family Support Worker will maximise aspirations for their future.
In the Alton Cluster, we pride ourselves in working closely with children, parents and other professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for every pupil, regardless of their starting point in life, by raising self-esteem and confidence. We are a forward-thinking group of professionals and our day-to-day practice, is very much a 'whatever it takes' approach, where we strive to level the playing field so that there are equal opportunities for success for all.
The role will require an approachable, professional person who is able to balance supporting families empathetically with delivering difficult messages resiliently at times. You will need to have a good sense of humour and be able to recognise the positives - even with the smallest amounts of progress!
In addition to this, we are looking for an experienced professional who has:
- Knowledge and understanding of the problems and issues families/parents face, which affect and inhibit the educational progress of children.
- Deep knowledge of child development across all aspects of school and family life.
- A real understanding of how different schools operate and their relationships with external agencies, charities and other local support in Alton and the surrounding areas.
- Clear understanding of confidentiality around sensitive and personal information shared by children and their families.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, which enable positive resolutions of difficult situations.
- Ability to listen effectively.
- An understanding of the demands of working within disadvantaged communities and a firm understanding of what this looks like in Alton and the surrounding areas covered by the 10 different communities.
- Ability to work under pressure and within different teams where strong working relationships are essential.
- Ability to be proactive and show initiative, with the ability to prioritise and self-manage time and workload.
- Ability to keep meticulous and accurate records of conversations and plans.
We can offer you:
- Dedicated supervision time.
- Working alongside an experienced colleague.
- Clear line management within the group of schools.
- The ear and support of headteachers/Senior Leaders who will support you in your partnership work.
- A warm and supportive work family across our schools who will relish the opportunity to work alongside you.
- Wonderful children across all the settings!
- Supportive parents and carers who are used to having strong connections with the schools and engage well with the support offered.
- Governors who understand the importance of building strong relationships between home and school to secure the best outcomes for our children.
