Salary Details: Grade D £26,918 - £29,616  

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week (52 weeks a year inc holiday) 

Mon & Wed 8am-4pm Tues & Thurs 7:30am-11am & 2pm-6pm Fri 7:30am-11am & 2pm-6pm (example hours however structure of week can be negotiated)

Are you looking for an opportunity to help manage a Federation of two infant schools, taking pride in your work, engaging with professional development and working in a supportive and stimulating environment?  This is a new role to the Federation and a unique, exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to make the job their own. As this is a completely new role, it will start as a temporary position with a view to becoming permanent at the end of the academic year.    

The successful candidate will maintain our school sites, buildings and grounds, to the highest possible standard, proactively enhancing our facilities.  They will ensure the schools are safe, clean and well maintained for pupils, staff, parents and visitors.  The individual will be practical and able to adapt their skills to the needs of the schools and prioritise health, safety and security at all times.    

The successful candidate will have or develop an awareness of Hampshire County Council and school policies and be prepared to engage with Professional Development ensuring statutory checks and responsibilities are fulfilled.

The ideal candidate will be hard working, dependable, trustworthy, use their own initiative and be flexible in their approach to their duties.   A range of practical and DIY skills are essential to ensure the schools are safe and well maintained. Knowledge of health and safety would also be desirable. 

Basic computing, literacy and numeracy skills are essential (support and training will be provided.) The role will include occasional working at heights and moving and handling of objects (training will be provided).

We are looking for:

  • Manage both the school sites, grounds and buildings.
  • Being responsible for site security including the daily opening of the school, occasionally working outside normal hours for school events, including out of hours/ emergency call outs.
  • Arrange and supervise contractors on site. Ensuring standards are maintained, with health and safety always being paramount.
  • Take responsibility for stock control and ordering of cleaning products and maintenance items.
  • Be a team player, whilst managing a team and holding others to account.
  • Be flexible, resilient and have good communication skills.
  • Maintain the grounds in a clean and tidy condition, including sweeping car parks, paths, clearing litter, emptying bins, cutting back plant growth.
  • Liaise and manage a programme of planned and preventative maintenance, undertaking minor repairs, maintenance, and redecoration within the school and its grounds.
  • Have good basic DIY skills including plumbing, painting and carpentry. 
  • Identify and maintain a record of repairs and report appropriate information to the Head of school.
  • Monitor and implement all elements of the health and safety policy in accordance with premises requirements, ensuring the safety of the site and people using it at all times.
  • Undertake checks and maintain records to meet statutory health and safety requirements e.g. COSHH, Asbestos legislation, writing and reviewing risk assessments and testing fire alarms (training will be provided).
  • Carry out compliance checks in line with Hampshire County Councils statutory policy.
  • Undertake a range of health and safety training and other training relevant to the role.
  • An ability to work independently, using their own initiative, including prioritising workloads and contributing to the needs of the children and the whole school team.
  • Able to keep records of tests and checks as required, using paper, email and online systems.
  • Regular lone working.
  • Work in a flexible manner for the needs of the children and the school
