Job Introduction

Are you passionate about gardening and enjoy working outdoors? Do you take pride in maintaining beautiful, safe, and welcoming environments? Wallisdean Federation is looking for a dedicated Gardener to join our site team. 

About the Role:

As our School Gardener, you will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the school’s gardens and outdoor areas. Your work will help create a pleasant and safe environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain school gardens and grounds: weeding, planting, pruning and watering. Ensure all work complies with health and safety standards.
  • Liaise with the Site Manager, Executive Head Teacher, and contractors as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • At least 6 months of basic gardening experience preferred, but not essential. 
  • Familiarity with garden tools and equipment.
  • Awareness of safe working practices and health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily tasks effectively.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Training & Support:

  • Full induction and training provided, including safe equipment use and manual handling.
  • Ongoing support from the school’s site team and Hampshire County Council.

Hours of work: 5 Hours a week, which will be discussed at the interview. The contract is for 41 weeks per year, 5 hours per week. This position includes two weeks during the main summer break.
