Alverstoke Infant School is a community school nestled in the heart of Alverstoke Village for children aged 4-7, seeking a co-opted governor to join the governing body on a 4 year term of office. The role of the school governor at Alverstoke Infant School
Governing bodies have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:
· Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
· Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
· Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
Each individual governor is a member of the governing body and all decisions are a joint responsibility. No one governor is expected to know it all. We attract and rely upon members from a wide variety of backgrounds, share duties amongst our members, and take decisions as a group.
Governors undertake specific roles as well as being a member of the full governing board. These roles include overseeing safeguarding, finance and health and safety
The Governing Board of Alverstoke Infant School welcome all applications for the role of a co-opted Governor, and are particularly keen to hear from individuals with previous board experience or a background in financial planning and accounability.

Expectations
At Alverstoke Infant School governors typically spend 10 hours per term on a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
· prior reading of paperwork and the preparation of questions before meetings
· attendance at 2-3 governing body meetings per term
· 2 school monitoring visits per term
· reviewing policies and the school’s budget
· attendance at governor training
All Governors are subject to DBS checks.
Alverstoke Infant School Governors may also be called upon to form part of a panel for recruitment, disciplinary hearings or permanent exclusions at either Alverstoke Infant School or Alverstoke Junior School. Although these are rare and training will be provided.
