Job Purpose
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, adaptable and highly motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our successful and supportive team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school, working with individuals, small groups and whole classes.
The role will include providing high-quality classroom support, delivering interventions, monitoring pupil progress, and covering classes across Reception to Year 6, including regular PPA cover for teachers. Whilst initially based in Key Stage 2, the postholder will be expected to work flexibly across all year groups as required.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Provide high-quality support for teaching and learning across the school.
- Plan and deliver learning activities for individuals, groups and whole classes under the direction of teaching staff.
- Lead whole-class teaching during planned teacher absence and PPA cover.
- Support pupils with a range of educational, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
- Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of all learners.
- Encourage pupil independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
- Promote high expectations of behaviour and learning.
Assessment and Pupil Progress
- Monitor, assess and record pupil progress.
- Provide feedback to teachers regarding pupil achievement and next steps.
- Use assessment information to support learning and intervention programmes.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil attainment and participation.
Behaviour and Wellbeing
- Promote positive behaviour and act as a role model for pupils.
- Implement the school's behaviour policy consistently and fairly.
- Support pupils' social and emotional development.
- Ensure the health, safety and welfare of pupils at all times.
Professional Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents and external agencies where appropriate.
- Attend relevant meetings, training and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
- Uphold the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Contribute positively to the wider life of the school and federation.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
The successful candidate will:
- Hold GCSE Grade C/Level 4 or above in English and Mathematics.
- Hold HLTA status or an equivalent higher-level qualification.
- Demonstrate experience of supporting teaching and learning within a primary school setting.
- Be highly organised and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Be proactive and able to use initiative when working independently.
- Work constructively and positively as part of a team.
- Have a firm, sensitive and effective approach to managing pupil behaviour.
- Be able to monitor, evaluate and record pupil progress accurately.
- Demonstrate the ability to motivate, inspire and encourage children appropriately.
- Be flexible and willing to adapt to changing needs across the school.
- Understand the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional conduct.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be committed to promoting inclusion and equality of opportunity for all pupils.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of delivering interventions across a range of primary age groups.
- Experience of covering whole classes.
- Knowledge of SEND and inclusive classroom practices.
- Experience of working across different key stages within a primary school.
