Job Introduction
Head of Foundation Curriculum - Havant
We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative practitioner to join our Senior Leadership Team with a responsibility for leading our Foundation Curriculum team. Applicants must have experience of working effectively with pupils who demonstrate unproductive behaviours and have a competent understanding of effective strategies for engaging pupils in learning; they must be an excellent practitioner in their own subject area alongside possessing the skills to lead and develop other subject areas and a commitment to developing their own practice through research and ongoing professional development. They will also be able to demonstrate the impact of their practice on the outcome of all pupils – particularly disadvantaged pupils.
Successful applicants will be expected to line-manage and quality assure the foundation curriculum team – currently comprising our Catering, Design and Technology, PE, Humanities, Drama and Art departments – as well as wider strategic responsibilities to ensure positive outcomes for all pupils. Applicants will also demonstrate a confident understanding of emerging pedagogy and effective curriculum design, competency in data analysis and will be able to respond effectively to the intricacies of leadership. Successful applicants will demonstrate an excellent ability to adopt a relational approach to managing unproductive behaviours and put pupils at the centre of all that they do. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated and ambitious colleague to join The Key Havant’s leadership team as we continue on our journey towards becoming a centre of excellence.
The Key Education Centres are alternative provisions for pupils aged 11—16 who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools. The centres also include a provision for emotionally vulnerable or medically unwell pupils. Our provisions pride themselves on being abreast of current pedagogy and our work around attachment-focused and trauma informed practice is a fundamental part of our work in engaging pupils in learning experiences beyond those of the traditional curriculum alongside providing them with the skills needed to succeed in life beyond The Key and in modern Britain.
This is a full-time position with a 50% teaching allocation.
