The Butts Primary is a popular and highly successful school in a beautiful part of the world. The school prides itself on its community outlook, outdoor learning as well as its academic results and is well supported by staff, parents, and governors.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hard-working, passionate and dedicated Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work alongside our friendly and supportive team. The successful applicant will provide support to classes and provide whole class cover for some PPA and teacher absence across all year groups, when required. The contract is for 30 hours per week, 5 days a week, term time only (40 weeks), however there may be some flexibility for the right candidate.

At The Butts Primary School, we aim to secure outstanding outcomes for all of our pupils, and so are looking for an HLTA who:

  • has a secure knowledge of primary education and meets the HLTA standards. Whilst the HLTA qualification is not essential, we would expect applicants to be either currently working towards or willing to work towards it.
  • has a passion for working with children and helping them improve in character through developing their resilience and mindset as well as in qualification.
  • values the importance of children learning in an outdoor environment during all seasons.
  • has the creativity to design activities for the year group to encourage this and engage children.
  • knows and is interested in how children learn.
  • uses their initiative to bring the best out in children.
  • knows the importance of keeping children safe.
  • has high expectations for themselves and their pupils.
  • is a team player, able to inspire and work in partnership with staff, parents and pupils
  • is able to work unsupervised to deliver lesson plans, manage pupil behaviour and make judgements about pupil progress/needs without reference to the teacher.
  • is able to provide training and support to other staff as appropriate.

 We can offer you.

  • An attractive and enjoyable working environment
  • A friendly, supportive and welcoming team who are committed to achieving the best outcomes for our children.
  • A well-resourced school with a supportive, fun and a forward-thinking team
  • A school rooted firmly in our local community.
  • Happy, motivated, and engaged children and staff
  • Opportunities for professional development

Our Learning Support Assistant Team work in close partnership with class teachers and our Inclusion Leader (SENDCo) to promote learning for all children. Experience of undertaking whole class teaching and learning in the absence of the class teacher would be of benefit.

Applicants should have:

  • at least 2 years relevant experience of working in a teaching and learning environment.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • English and Maths to GCSE Grade C
