Job Introduction
Home School Link Worker (Attendance)– Havant
This is a full-time position, on a fixed term basis
We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative practitioner to join our welfare team and play a key role in improving attendance. Applicants must have experience of working effectively with pupils who demonstrate unproductive behaviours and/or school avoidance. Applicants should have a competent understanding of effective strategies for engaging pupils and their families. They must also exhibit a firm commitment to developing their own practice through ongoing professional development and be confident in demonstrating the impact of their practice on the outcome of all pupils – particularly disadvantaged pupils and those with long-term attendance concerns.
Applicants will be able to demonstrate a confident understanding of safeguarding procedures, maintain accurate records and be confident representing the centre at external meetings with professionals from a range of services from across the community, including the Local Authority, Police, Children’s Services, the Youth Offending Team and local Youth Charities. Applicants should have an awareness of best practice for maintaining good attendance at school. The post holder will form part of our safeguarding team as one of our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads.
Applicants will be required to support in the monitoring and continual improvement of the attendance of pupils who are on roll at The Key. This will require the successful applicant to be able to travel within the catchment area to visit and transport pupils that have irregular or low attendance; they may also be required to provide support/transport for trips and other mentoring opportunities.
The applicant will also be a member of the transition team in the centre, providing support with initial home visits and supporting the initial induction process for every pupil. As such, applicants must be able to show that they are able to utilise a relational approach to develop close, effective partnerships with our pupils and families within a concise period.
The applicant will also be expected to carry out interventions to support pupils with their overall welfare and behaviour, in line with the Attachment and Trauma Informed Practice (ATIP) principles that underpin all professional practice here at The Key. As such, the practitioner will be expected to identify and develop relevant aspects of social, emotional, and mental health, as well as also being able to successfully signpost families to avenues of external support in the area if necessary.
The Key Education Centres are alternative provisions for pupils aged 11—16 who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools. The centres also include a provision for emotionally vulnerable or medically unwell pupils. Our provisions pride themselves on being abreast of current pedagogy and our work around attachment-focused and trauma informed practice is a fundamental part of our work in engaging pupils in learning experiences beyond those of the traditional curriculum alongside providing them with the skills needed to succeed in life beyond The Key and in modern Britain.
