Horticulture Assistant
Fixed term – 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026
Up to 32 hours per week, 39 weeks per year
Grade B – Salary Range £24,027 to £24,348 (Full Time Equivalent) per annum
Pro rata salary for 32 hours at B1 - £17,775.72 per annum (pay award pending)
We have an opportunity for a Horticulture Assistant to support horticulture lessons. As well as maintaining the planters, trees and gardens around the school site, and produce growing at the farm, you will promote and facilitate pupil progress and achievement in outdoor learning and horticultural activities. You will also lead groups of children once you feel confident to do so. The successful candidate will have a passion for horticulture / gardening and will have / or be prepared to study for formal horticulture qualifications.
- Prepare resources for horticulture lessons.
- Deliver group sessions covering various horticulture topics.
- Maintain indoor and outdoor plants.
- Maintain and repair tools.
- Stocktake and order supplies.
- Supporting students visiting the farm.
- Working in outdoor education and horticulture lessons and supporting the department when not needed in a lesson, maintaining very high standards of health and safety for groups working outdoors and supporting inexperienced teachers in delivering outdoor education.
- Supporting the students and teacher as required.
- Developing students' literacy skills, particularly reading, through targeted support and regular assessment.
- Developing students' emotional resilience through targeted support and intervention.
- Liaising with subject teachers to ensure students are accessing appropriately challenging learning and are able to make good progress
