The Hayling College is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Humanities department. We are really proud of our Humanities/Geography curriculum and are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and highly motivated Teacher of Humanities/Geography to join our dedicated and innovative department, bringing our curriculum to life within the classroom. 

The successful candidate will be an excellent practitioner and a strong team player with a keen interest in developing pedagogical practices. There is an emphasis on teamwork and mutual support. 

Geography is a key department within our school which opens students’ eyes and develops their understanding of current local and global issues, ranging from the impacts of international migration, through to localised flooding and the global efforts to tackle climate change. Fieldwork is widely offered to all year groups as a key part of our geography curriculum and is very popular here at The Hayling College.

The successful applicant will be required to teach across the full age and ability range, through all key stages.

  • Have an excellent track-record as a teacher
  • Are committed to using educational visits to enhance geography teaching
  • Have relevant qualifications and experience, including a DfE recognised teaching qualification
  • Are able to evidence, success in raising student achievement across a broad range of abilities through successful assessment, monitoring and evaluation of student progress, and the range of strategies that could be used to address underachievement
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to maximise your potential and challenge yourself through effective and personalised CPD
  • Are outward looking and keep abreast of current educational research and best practice
  • Are flexible and adaptable
  • Are ambitious, hard-working and a team player
  • Believe in a “no-excuses” culture
