At Hart Plain Junior School, we believe that every child deserves to feel successful, understood and supported to thrive.

We are seeking an inspiring Inclusion Leader (SENDCo) to join our leadership team and drive forward our commitment to high-quality inclusive practice for all pupils to join our team from September 2026 or January 2027. We can be flexible around days worked: either non-class based three/four days a week or five days a week with a teaching commitment.

We are seeking an excellent teacher, who has the desire and potential to be a successful school leader, as the successful candidate will form an integral part of the school’s senior leadership team. This is a key leadership role where you will:

  • Shape the strategic direction of SEND provision
  • Lead and develop inclusive practice across the school
  • Work closely with staff to ensure high-quality teaching for all learners

 If you firmly believe that inclusion is at the heart of a successful school, then we want to hear from you!

Ideally you will hold the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination (NASENCO) or the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCOs. Or will have made good progress towards completion of the qualification National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCOs. However, consideration will be given to strong candidates wishing to commence studies in this area – we will fully support attendance and completion of the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCOs.

Hart Plain Junior School serves a diverse community, and we are proud of our inclusive ethos. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils, including those with additional needs, make strong progress both academically and personally.

We are known for our strong culture of support, care and teamwork. We believe that children achieve their best when they feel safe, valued and understood—and the same is true for our staff. Our team of learning support assistants are skilled in what they do, constantly going over and above for the benefit of our pupils. You will lead our dedicated team of support staff and work collaboratively with teachers, external agencies and families to ensure that provision is carefully tailored and impactful.

We are proud to be a school that adopts the Empowerment Approach and work closely with the co-author of “Curious not Furious” and director of Changing Chances, Kit Messenger. In September 2026 we are beginning an exciting journey towards becoming an accredited school. The inclusion lead role would be integral to this journey.

You will:

  • Be able to analyse data and use this information to think strategically;
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with children, staff, parents and external agencies;
  • Be flexible, adaptable and resilient, able to organise workload efficiently and competently yet still willing to contribute to the wider life of the school;
  • Have the ability to liaise with class teachers and learning support assistants in implementing and evidencing impact of learning interventions;
  • Administer screening tests and identify appropriate interventions and monitoring their impact;
  • Have an awareness of Education Health Care Plans and up to date knowledge of the recent SEN code of practice;
  • Be passionate supporting others in ensuring that children with SEN are able to reach their learning potential;
  • Lead our team of learning support assistants across the school;
  • Contribute effectively to school improvement as part of the senior leadership team;
  • Have a commitment to on-going, high-quality professional development.
