Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
In common with all other members of staff and in accordance with the terms and conditions of a teacher’s contract of employment, the teacher shall:
- Maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the teaching of the primary curriculum, taking account of relevant wider curriculum developments and use in-service training to further promote your teaching standards.
- Take responsibility for own professional development and use the outcomes to improve teaching and pupils’ learning.
- Plan lessons and sequences of lessons to meet pupils’ individual learning needs according to school policy, to be presented in the form of a termly forecast and subsequent detailed weekly forecasts.
- Ensure that pupils achieve well relative to their prior attainment, making progress as good as or better than similar pupils nationally and in the school.
- Assess, monitor and record the progress of pupils and give them clear and constructive feedback.
- Inform parents of the needs and progress of their child, in consultation with the Executive Headteacher, Head of School and keep colleagues informed of relevant information given by the parents.
- Assist in the maintenance of discipline throughout the school by following the schools’ Behaviour Management Policy and promote in the children an awareness and respect for both the feelings and property of others. Provide a disciplined and structured environment in which a child can develop a sense of independence and self-confidence.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils in the school, immediately bringing to the attention of the Executive Headteacher/Head of School any child who appears to have suffered a non-accidental injury, or where any form of child abuse is suspected. Be aware of the pastoral needs of the children and cater for them within the school situation.
- Create a stimulating learning environment through the use of varied teaching methods according to the needs of the subject and the individual child.
- Take corporate responsibility for the maintenance of resources, furniture and fabric of the school in general.
- Keep the Executive Headteacher/Head of School informed of day-to-day events around the school.
- Enhance the learning environment through the effective use of display. Encourage children to take pride in their work and foster high standards of presentation throughout the curriculum.
- To ensure every child in your class is cared for and supported pastorally in lines with Safeguarding expectations and policies
- Be aware of the health and safety needs around the school and report them to the Health and Safety representative immediately.
- Co-operate with and support colleagues in the day-to-day teaching and development of the school curriculum, carrying out assigned duties promptly and efficiently.
