Job Introduction
KS2 Temporary Cover Teacher Vacancies
Job Summary
We would like to recruit some enthusiastic teachers to join our team for the 2026-27 year on a part-time basis to cover PPA and non-contact time at our school. We have tried a variety of approaches to cover regular non-contact and PPA time over recent years and feel these times are most successful for our children when they are taught by familiar teachers.
We prioritise consistency for our children and we would like teachers covering weekly PPA and non-contact to build strong, positive relationships with our children. We believe that trusting relationships, built on mutual respect, are fundamental to success for everyone.
Although we teach English and maths each morning, we are hoping that applicants with specialist skills, whether that be in music, PE or another subject, will be able to use these to good effect in the afternoons as we can be flexible about which subjects are covered during PPA time.
We are looking for primary teachers who:
- Are, or aspire to be, excellent practitioners
- Provide effective and innovative learning opportunities to engage all children in their care
- Deploy a range of positive behaviour management strategies seeking to build mutually respectful relationships within their class
- Demonstrate high expectations of children, self and other adults seeking to enhance their potential
- Have an approachable and caring manner
- Would be supportive of our Christian ethos
We would like to recruit teachers to the following roles with staff covering the same class each week of the year:
- Tuesday all day in Year 6 (non-contact in the morning and PPA cover in the same class in the afternoon)
- Tuesday all day in Years 5 and 6 (Year 5 non-contact in the morning and Year 6 PPA in the afternoon)
- Thursday all day in Year 3 (non-contact in the morning and PPA cover in the same class in the afternoon)
- Monday afternoon in Year 5 (PPA needed in three classes)
- Tuesday afternoon in Year 6 (PPA needed in two classes)
- Wednesday afternoon in Year 4 (PPA needed in two classes)
- Thursday afternoon in Year 3 (PPA needed in two classes)
We welcome applications from teachers who would like to work in one or more of these roles.
We are a large church school with four classes per year group and these vacancies are offered on the Main Pay Range. The part-time nature of these roles would make it difficult for us to provide the level of support which ECTs need to build their skills and experience, therefore we are looking for experienced teachers.
What we can offer
As a school, we are extremely proud of our successes in setting high expectations and developing the whole child through our strong Christian ethos. Our dedicated staff work together as a strong team enabling both children and staff to flourish.
At Horndean Church of England Junior School we strive to provide each and every one of the five hundred children in our care with a first-class education. We are an inclusive school and we prioritise adapting teaching and learning to meet the needs of all our learners.
We are extremely proud of our successes and the effectiveness of our school improvement work over time has been recognised by the Local Authority. In April 2022 we secured a very positive outcome from our short Ofsted inspection, not least the judgement that our Christian Values of TLC ‘help to make the school a very special place.’ This echoed the outcome of our church school inspection in November 2019 that our Christian vision ‘successfully drives the school’s development and has an exceptional impact on the lives of pupils and adults.’
