Job Introduction
We are looking to appoint a confident, flexible and highly-motivated person with medical experience who can also deliver pastoral support for our children to join our school. The successful applicant will be required to join our strong team of support staff to deliver children’s medical needs and offer welfare support. Your support will extend over play times and lunchtime duties and will include:
- Assess staff and pupil medical needs and administer front-line first aid e.g., plasters, bandages etc. and the remedies/action.
- Effective and efficient provision of first aid and trauma wounds
- Managing medical equipment in line with school needs and providing pastoral support for pupils
- Refer for onward assessment and treatment by medical practitioner, hospital etc.
- Provide or refer pupils to pastoral care
- Ensure relevant literature is available for staff, parents and pupils
- Maintain and administer approved medication to pupils in secure conditions
- Advise parents on absence for medical reasons and challenge when needed
- Liaising with senior leadership team (in particular SENDCo) parents and external agencies
- Maintain medical records/reports including those for statutory requirements e.g. accidents
- Monitor, analyse and provide medical reports to the senior leadership team
- Liaise with external medical agencies and make arrangements for visits of school nurse, and other external agencies as required
- Administer uniform grant process and free school meals
- Administer lost property arrangements, pupil lockers and sales of uniform
The successful candidate will have:
- A passion for working with and supporting children
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) grade C or above
- An NVQ qualification or equivalent
- Medical qualifications and /or experience
- Experience of working with children in a medical capacity or within a school environment
- A positive attitude and be flexible to the demands of the role and the needs of the school
- The skills to work independently and with initiative
- The ability to stay calm and focused, even under pressure
- The ability to form and sustain positive relationships with all children and stakeholders
- Acute self-awareness, emotional intelligence and the ability to work well as part of a team
- Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and confidentiality
- The ability to work within the demands of an educational setting
