Job Introduction

Greatham Primary School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistant to join our friendly and vibrant school community.   This is a maternity leave cover position.  If you are looking to develop a career with children, this is a terrific opportunity in which you will have access to a wide range of apprenticeships and training opportunities. 

We are looking for a candidate who:  

  • Likes working with children
  • Has strong academic skills including English and Maths skills (ideally GCSE grades A-C or equivalent) 
  • Has experience of working in school
  • Has a child care qualification (NVQ level 2+) OR the desire to train in this area
  • Has a robust understanding of child development 
  • Has a good sense of humour, a smile and a ‘can do’ attitude   
  • Is a flexible team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with teachers and other adults in the classroom 
  • Has high expectations of pupil achievement and behaviour
  • Has the ability to work independently and pro-actively 
  • Understands confidentiality and safeguarding 

The ideal candidate will be kind, positive, patient and a team-player alongside possessing high levels of literacy and numeracy and emotional intelligence. They would be able to sensitively support children both in lessons and in small groups. They would also enjoy playing with children. Experience of working with autistic children would be an advantage.
