Learning Support Assistant 3 - Grade D

Job Introduction

We are a small school with big opportunities! Icknield is an Outstanding special school for pupils with severe learning difficulties aged 3-19 years. However, the true beauty of our school is that we are a small site and everyone here is part of the close knit ‘Icknield Family’. We all know all of our children, each other and every individual in our family is valued and cared for.

We are highly ambitious for our pupils, and we follow our own personalised curriculum based on developing key attributes needed to maximise pupil’s ability to have a positive influence on and control over their own lives: PPICC (Personal, Physical, Independence, Cognition and Communication). With our recent new building and expanding our intake, we are looking for new staff to join us on our next phase.

Our school’s strap line is ‘Your journey matters’ and that is true for both pupils and staff.

Teaching and Learning takes place in small class groups with a high level of support and a well-differentiated curriculum to meet individual needs.

We are looking to recruit a conscientious, enthusiastic and energetic learning support assistant from September 2025, who is resourceful, motivated and has the ability to inspire pupils. You will require:

  • excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • be empathetic to pupil needs
  • be professionally discreet and respect confidentiality
  • have good interpersonal skills and a sense of humour
  • be a good team worker with a positive outlook
  • can use ICT effectively to support learning

We look at barriers as obstacles to be overcome rather than reasons to not attempt something that is difficult and are very proud of the range of experiences our pupils have.

Role requirements:

  • Serve as the timetabled lead for a class for two days per week, with responsibility for independently planning, preparing, and delivering all lessons across the curriculum. Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to the class-based Learning Support Assistant (LSA) team during these days.
  • For the other three days, working within the LSA team under the direction of the class teacher.
  • Contribute to high-quality assessment, recording, and reporting on pupil’s progress.
  • Hold as a minimum GCSE Maths and English, grade C or equivalent. Ideally also hold a Level 3 qualification.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant SEN experience in a teaching/learning/child support working environment.

Visits to the school are welcome and encouraged.

PLEASE NOTE:. This is a full-time post with the core hours being 8.45am to 3.15pm, 30 hours per week, term-time only. For this role there is no option for part-time hours. There may be some requirement to work additional hours, e.g. to attend meetings after school, but suitable remuneration will be provided for this.

Please email Sarah Greenwood, s.greenwood@icknield.hants.sch.uk for an application pack. Advert closes at 5pm, Monday, 7th July 2025, or complete the attached application form.

Interviews, if short-listed, to be held on Tuesday 15th July 2025.
