Job Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity for someone with learning support skills and experience to join our dedicated team of LSAs in supporting the learning, wellbeing and development of children in one of the classes of our large Church of England junior school.
We would like to recruit a new LSA to join our successful junior school team as a permanent member of staff as soon as possible. At our school, an LSA supports each class every morning and we have one Senior LSA (HLTA) in each year team to lead the LSA team. Our class-based LSAs work in partnership with the teacher in their class to promote learning, wellbeing and growth for every child. Our LSAs support assessment for learning strategies providing general learning support in class as well as both planned and responsive one-to-one and small group support for children’s learning and wellbeing. The National Curriculum embraces a ‘Whatever it takes’ approach and our LSAs have established strong working relationships with the teachers and children in the class they support to effectively enable every child to be successful. Our Class LSAs also support the children in their class at lunchtimes to help make them enjoyable and safe.
The role is a very rewarding one and involves working at Hampshire’s LSA 2 level which is reflected in the ‘C’ pay scale. Our vacancy is within our team of permanent LSAs who work 22.5 hours per week from 8:30am to 1pm each day to support learning, wellbeing and positive lunchtimes in a specific class.
Our LSA contracts are for 40 weeks per year to include their contracted hours for the 39 weeks of term time, plus whole days for educational visits, Sports Day, etc. Our LSAs also work one day in the summer holidays to help ensure everything is ready for our children for the start of the new school year in September.
We are a very large junior school with sixteen class - four in each year group. As a school we are extremely proud of our successes and the effectiveness of our school improvement work has been recognised by the Local Authority. In April 2022 we secured a very positive outcome from our short Ofsted inspection, not least the judgement that our Christian Values of TLC ‘help to make the school a very special place.’ This echoed the outcome of our church school inspection in November 2019 that our Christian vision ‘successfully drives the school’s development and has an exceptional impact on the lives of pupils and adults.’
