An integral part of the work undertaken involves working in partnership with the teachers, supporting pupils’ special educational needs and this may involve assisting with their personal care needs.

We are a forward-thinking school who want to attract passionate and committed staff to join our dynamic team, ensuring the very best outcomes for our pupils.

The main part of this role is to lead the literacy programme we use at Glenwood – Ruth Miskin’s Read Write Inc. Fresh Start, providing a clear understanding of phonics to struggling readers whilst being age appropriate which is important in this setting. You will ensure that all teaching and learning support staff have access to online training for this scheme. It will also be your responsibility to assess progress for those on the Fresh Start programme but also for the wider school. You will need to support tutors in facilitating daily Food4Thought sessions which involve a reading session accompanied by a healthy snack.  Therefore, being organised and able to collate data effectively is desirable for this role.

You will have your own pupils who will require either 1:1 or small group interventions where you will be able to nurture and develop their reading skills which is very rewarding to witness over time. There is a designated Reading Room that creates a welcoming learning environment.

We want to continually develop a culture of reading for pleasure and in this role you can promote events such a World Book Day and have the pleasure of awarding reading certificates in our weekly assemblies.

Most of all, you will be part of a passionate and supportive team that understands the importance of reading to ensure that our pupils are prepared for adult life.

Summary:

  1. Identifying, administering, and evaluating literacy initiatives and interventions.
  2. Promoting and embedding essential literacy skills across faculties.
  3. Developing a culture of reading for pleasure.
  4. Devising rewards and awards to incentivise reading.
  5. Providing relevant CPD to staff.

The role offers an induction programme together with training in a wide range of areas including Special Needs and Safeguarding.  We also offer the opportunity for progression and development.

If we receive sufficient applicants we may close the vacancy early, therefore please apply as soon as possible.  Interviews will take place week commencing 21st October 2024 but suitable candidates may be invited to attend earlier.  Requests for part-time work will be considered, please state this on your application.
