Join Our Team at Herne Junior School

Are you passionate about helping children thrive and achieve their full potential?

We are looking for two enthusiastic, caring and dedicated Learning Support Assistants to join our friendly and supportive team at Herne Junior School. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and wants to make a real difference to their learning, confidence and wellbeing.

Whether you are considering a future career in teaching, already have experience as a Learning Support Assistant, or are looking to develop your knowledge of supporting neurodiverse learners, we would love to hear from you.

Thinking About Becoming a Teacher?

This role is an excellent stepping stone into a teaching career.

Successful candidates who are interested in teacher training will benefit from valuable classroom experience and support in preparing an application to train through our partner provider, South Farnham SCITT.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers to support pupils both in the classroom and through small group or individual interventions. You will help children overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and make progress across the curriculum.

You will:

  • Support pupils in lessons and intervention activities
  • Assist children with a range of learning needs
  • Work positively with individuals and small groups
  • Contribute to creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment
  • Keep concise records and provide feedback to teachers
  • Supervise pupils during lunchtime as part of the school team

For suitably qualified candidates, there may also be opportunities to undertake occasional classroom cover work.

Looking for more hours? Additional afternoon hours may be available for the right candidate, providing the opportunity to broaden your experience and become even more involved in our school community.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics, or equivalent)
  • Enjoys working with children and helping them succeed
  • Is positive, flexible and enthusiastic
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Can build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues
  • Has strong communication and organisational skills

Experience of supporting children with SEND, behavioural needs or neurodiverse learners would be advantageous, but is not essential. Most important is a willingness to learn and a commitment to supporting every child to succeed.

Why Join Herne Junior School?

At Herne Junior School, we are proud of our warm, welcoming community and our commitment to staff development.

We can offer:

✅ A friendly, supportive and dedicated staff team
