Kings Copse Primary School
We are looking for a VI LSA who can join the experienced ‘OASIS' team and work alongside the teacher of the vision impaired in providing excellent support for children with EHCPs and a variety of needs. This is a unique opportunity to work within our modern, purpose built provision within a mainstream primary school that opened in September 2008. The adults in the VI Team support a range of our VI children at various points during the week. All adults are aware of the VI needs and the progress of the children. The VI Team are very much part of the whole school and endeavour to support ALL children.
You will need to be:
• flexible
• aware of the needs of pupils with vision impairment
• able to use your initiative and think on your feet
• willing to learn how to adapt and modify learning materials
• able to make positive relationships with pupils
• support pupils 1:1 or within a group, yet enable them to be as independent as possible
You will be fully supported and managed by a Qualified Teacher for Vision Impairment (QTVI). A positive approach to working with children with special needs is essential.
The following areas of expertise may be an advantage, but please do list your current strengths and skills based on the experiences you have had. As stated, training will be offered and staff development is a key part of our work.
- Delivering Speech & Language programmes
- Working with pupils with complex/additional special educational needs
- Supporting in classes, one to one or in small groups
- Working with primary or pre-school aged pupils
- Working with children with additional special needs
- Patience and a willingness to listen
- Ability to work within a team
- Ability to use own initiative
- Ability to manage behaviour with calmness
We would like the successful candidate to be able to play a significant part in the continuing development of the school and to be able to work in partnership with the Headteacher, staff and Governors. LSAs are very much valued as part of the school team and the QTVI carries out annual performance reviews. LSAs meet weekly with the QTVI to discuss pupil progress, development areas for the school and update training.
