Learning Support Assistant

Job Introduction

At Knightwood Primary School, you will become part of a welcoming, supportive and dedicated team where children are at the heart of everything we do. Our school values of Kindness, Curiosity and Resilience underpin our approach to learning and relationships, helping every child to feel valued, included and able to succeed.

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support pupils across Key Stages 1 and 2. The role will focus primarily on supporting children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and children on the SEN register, helping them to access learning and participate fully in classroom life alongside their peers.

We are looking for someone who understands the importance of building positive relationships, developing children's confidence and independence, and adapting their approach to meet individual needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to children's learning, well being and sense of belonging within our school community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support for pupils adapting learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.

  • Support children to engage successfully in classroom learning and participate alongside their peers.

  • Promote independence, confidence and positive relationships, encouraging children to develop the skills they need to succeed.

  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, the SENDCo and wider inclusion team to implement appropriate strategies and support.

  • Contribute to a calm, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where all children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

  • Observe, monitor and communicate pupils' progress to class teachers

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience of working with primary-aged children, ideally including those with additional needs.

  • An understanding of how to adapt activities and approaches to support different learning needs.

  • The ability to work independently, use initiative and contribute effectively as part of a team.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children and adults.

  • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and promoting children's well being.

We Are Looking for Someone Who

  • Is warm, patient, empathetic and genuinely enjoys working with children.

  • Believes that every child can achieve and is committed to helping them reach their potential.

  • Is flexible, reflective and willing to learn new approaches.

  • Understands the importance of supporting children to become increasingly independent rather than creating dependence on adult support.

  • Shares our values of Kindness, Curiosity and Resilience and wants to contribute positively to our school community.

What We Can Offer

  • A friendly, welcoming school with a strong sense of community.

  • A supportive and collaborative staff team who are committed to making a difference.

  • Opportunities for professional development and to build experience in inclusive practice.

  • A school environment where children's well being, belonging and success are central to everything we do.

Safer Recruitment

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
