Job Introduction

LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT

8.30am – 3.30pm 5 days a week (part time hours of 3 or 4 days will be considered)

We are looking for a warm, caring and empathetic person to join the great team at Braishfield Primary School. We are a small, friendly village school with big ambitions for all our pupils! You will be part of a close, hard-working team who support each other in creating conditions in which all children can thrive.

This exciting opportunity is right for someone currently working as a Learning Support Assistant, interested in broadening their experience. The successful candidate must be able to work closely with class teachers and SENDCo. The candidate will have good knowledge and experience of working with children, and the ability to engage and build relationships with children is essential. You should also have patience, a sense of humour and a passion for supporting young children in their learning and life skills. The successful candidate will work within the classroom most of the time. Depending on the applicant, this could involve: 1:1 working with identified pupils; and some possible sessions out of class, delivering interventions.

Supporting the Pupil
  • To work to the direction of the class teacher(s) and the SENDCo to develop an understanding of the specific needs of pupils to be supported 
  • To support pupils to learn as effectively as possible in group situations and individually, inside and outside of the classroom.

 Supporting the SENDCo and Class Teacher 

  • To assist the SENDCo to develop a suitable programme of support and then carry out the programme, within the classroom or in a withdrawal situation
  • To contribute to Annual Reviews by attending meetings and feeding back on progress in conjunction with the class teacher
  • To provide, where necessary, written details of pupils’ progress/behaviour to support Annual Reviews and/or other assessment
  • To participate in the evaluation of the support programme, with the SENDCo and class teacher
  • To help adapt/ find differentiated materials to enable pupil/s to access the class curriculum

Supporting the school 

  • Where appropriate, to foster links between home and school 
  • To liaise, advise and consult with other members of the SEND team 
  • To contribute to review meetings, as appropriate
  • To participate in relevant professional development 
  • To be aware of / follow school policies and procedures 
  • To maintain confidentiality about home-school / pupil-teacher/ school work matters 
  • To complete any other task as directed by the Headteacher
