Level 6 Nursery Practitioner

Job Introduction

Join Us as a Level 6 Nursery Practitioner – Shape the Foundations of Lifelong Learning working in a school-based nursery in Hampshire, the core hours are 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Additionally, there's an opportunity to work in wraparound care from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Are you an experienced Early Years professional with a deep understanding of child development and a passion for shaping high-quality early education? Are you ready to play a key role in a brand-new, purpose-built nursery provision at the heart of a vibrant school community? If so, we would love to hear from you.

We are seeking a Level 6 qualified Nursery Practitioner (or equivalent) to help lead our new school-based nursery setting with confidence, creativity, and care. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of something from the very beginning – shaping the provision, embedding routines, and helping to establish a warm, ambitious, and inclusive early learning environment for 3- and 4-year-old children.

Why Join South Wonston?

Our school community is built on kindness, connection, and high expectations—for every child and every member of staff. With a newly refurbished nursery space, access to beautiful outdoor areas, and a supportive team around you, this is a chance to make your mark in a setting where excellence and joy go hand in hand.

We are committed to nurturing children’s natural curiosity and laying strong foundations for school readiness through play, exploration, and purposeful interactions.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a skilled and experienced practitioner, you will:

  • Lead high-quality learning experiences, planning and delivering activities aligned with the EYFS curriculum.

  • Act as a key person to a group of children, building strong relationships with families and tracking progress with confidence.

  • Support the development of the nursery provision, contributing to planning, reflection, and continuous improvement.

  • Work closely with the Nursery Lead and school team to embed routines, create enabling environments, and ensure every child thrives.

  • Take a proactive role in safeguarding and inclusion, identifying individual needs early and working collaboratively with external professionals where appropriate.

  • Model excellent practice for others, supporting junior colleagues and sharing your expertise.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A Level 6 qualification in Early Childhood Studies, EYITT, PGCE (Early Years), or equivalent.

  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS Framework, child development, and effective pedagogy.

  • Experience working in a nursery or early years setting, ideally in a leadership or key worker role.

  • A reflective, resilient, and nurturing practitioner with a commitment to continuous professional development.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire children, families, and colleagues.

  • A deep understanding of safeguarding and SEND practices within the early years.

What We Offer:

  • A brand-new nursery setting – thoughtfully designed to promote curiosity, independence, and joy.

  • A forward-thinking school community – where your ideas are valued, and your professional voice matters.

  • Access to ongoing CPD and career progression pathways, including opportunities to contribute to school-wide EYFS development.

  • A collaborative, warm, and inclusive team – where wellbeing is prioritised and staff are genuinely supported.

  • Beautiful outdoor learning environments, carefully planned continuous provision, and strong links with Reception and the wider school.
