Key Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted pastoral support through:
- 1:1 sessions
- Small group interventions
- SEN/SEMH interventions
- Supportchildren experiencing:
- Bereavement
- Trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)
- Emotional wellbeing challenges
- EBSA/EBSNA (Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance)
- Emotional regulation
- Manage and prioritise a caseload of pupils, ensuring appropriate planning, monitoring, and record keeping
- Design and create engaging intervention resources and session plans
- Contribute to a whole-school pastoral approach, working collaboratively with staff
- Build effective relationships with parents and carers, including:
- Communication around pupil support
- Delivering or supporting parent workshops
- Supportkey school processes such as:
- Transition support (e.g., Year 2 to Year 3, Year 6 transition)
- Whole-school pastoral initiatives and events
- Lunchtime support, school trips and administering first aid
- Adhere to the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
- Engage in continuous professional development, attending relevant training and keeping up to date with best practices
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Has proven experience working with children (essential)
- Has a strong understanding of SEMH needs and child development
- Is confident working with children on sensitive and complex issues
- Can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and families
- Is highly organised and able to manage a varied caseload
- Is proactive, reflective, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to respond to changing needs and priorities throughout the school day.
- Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
- ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) training
- TALA or equivalent therapeutic qualifications
- Counselling skills or relevant pastoral training
- Experience delivering interventions linked to mental health and wellbeing
- Special Education Knowledge: Understanding of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and experience working with SEND students
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
