Job Introduction
The Role:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Portage Inclusion Practitioner to join our dynamic Inclusion Team. In this role, you will provide expert guidance and support to early years childcare settings, helping them to develop inclusive practices and tailored strategies for children with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will play a key role in empowering practitioners and families to support children’s development and inclusion.
Hampshire County Council’s Services for Young Children (SfYC) Inclusion Team is committed to improving outcomes for children with SEND. We work collaboratively with early years settings, families, and partner agencies to ensure inclusive, supportive environments where every child can thrive.
What you’ll do:
You'll ensure the delivery and development of an excellent Portage Service, which offers a high-level specialist educational programme, instruction, help and advice to families and early years education and childcare providers with a pre-school child who has significant additional needs. (Including complex educational needs or challenging behaviour needs). You'll deliver within the framework of the Inclusion Service Plan, the SfYC Service Plan and Children’s and Young People's Plan.
What we’re looking for:
Someone with experience in early years, SEND, and supporting families; ideally holding (or willing to work towards) an NVQ Level 4 and Portage training. You’ll bring strong knowledge of child development and SEND legislation, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multi‑agency team. Familiarity with early intervention approaches, Makaton, PECS, or sensory needs would be an advantage.
