Job Introduction
About Us
Wolverdene School is a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) primary school based in Andover, Hampshire. Our residential provision, The Lodge, provides a nurturing 24-hour curriculum in a socially and emotionally enriching environment for children who attend the school.
We are proud of our supportive and inclusive ethos, where every child is valued, encouraged, and guided to achieve their best — emotionally, socially, and academically.
About the Role
We are seeking a Residential Child Care Officer to join our dedicated residential team. You will play a key role in supporting children within both our residential and alternative educational provision.
Working as part of a small, passionate team, you will:
- Place children at the centre of everything we do, demonstrating empathy, enthusiasm, and adaptability.
- Support children to understand and manage their emotions, focusing on co-regulation and building positive, trusting relationships.
- Be a consistent role model, advocate, and safe person for the children in your care.
- Help children experience positive ‘golden moments’ through engaging indoor and outdoor activities and learning opportunities.
- Take on keywork responsibilities with children and families, ensuring clear communication and effective record-keeping.
- Promote safeguarding and follow all policies and procedures in line with Hampshire County Council’s standards.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will need patience, resilience, humour, and a genuine commitment to supporting children through their most challenging times.
About You
Experience in a similar setting is beneficial but not essential — full training and guidance will be provided.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has the right temperament and values to work effectively with children with SEMH needs.
- Is self-reflective, emotionally resilient, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn and a genuine desire to make a positive difference.
A Level 3 Diploma for Residential Child Care (or equivalent) is desirable. Successful applicants without this qualification will be supported to enrol and complete it during employment.
A full driving licence (minimum 2 years’ experience) is advantageous but not essential.
What We Offer
- A supportive and welcoming team environment
- Comprehensive induction and ongoing training
- Opportunities for personal and professional development
- The chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children
