Job Introduction
An exciting opportunity to lead literacy in a trauma-informed school where every day brings challenge, reward and meaning
We are seeking an exceptional teacher with a passion for literacy and a desire to lead. This is a chance to make a visible, lasting impact on students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a well-resourced, therapeutic setting.
About Prospect School
We are a specialist SEMH school for boys aged 11 to 16, where every student has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Our approach is built on relationships, consistency and care. We use therapeutic models such as PACE and ATAS to help students succeed. Staff work in close teams, and we take pride in our calm environment, high expectations and reflective practice.
About the role
You will lead literacy across the school and teach English to students working across a range of levels. Many are not yet secure in reading and writing, so your teaching will need to be engaging, adaptive and creative.
Alongside teaching, you will take strategic responsibility for whole-school literacy, supporting colleagues, modelling excellent practice and embedding a shared culture of reading and writing across the curriculum.
What we are looking for
We are especially keen to hear from primary-trained teachers with a strong background in literacy and a confidence in delivering English. However, we also welcome applications from those with Qualified Teacher Status with secondary training. SEN experience is highly valued, although a strong interest and willingness to learn are equally important.
You will be someone who:
- Delivers high-quality, structured teaching with excellent classroom practice
- Understands how to support students working below age-related expectations
- Can lead literacy development across the school
- Brings a trauma-informed, therapeutic approach to their teaching
- Is adaptable, organised and calm under pressure
- Works well in a team and values collaboration
- Has strong communication skills and a reflective mindset
- Can motivate, challenge and inspire students
- Has high expectations of behaviour, engagement and achievement
- Is prepared to teach in any area of the school, if needed
What we offer
- A highly supportive and collaborative staff team
- Access to CPD and opportunities to lead innovation in literacy and SEN
- A strong team ethos rooted in trust and shared values
- A therapeutic, attachment-informed environment with clear structures and support
- A well-resourced school and a very supportive Governing Body
- The chance to be at the forefront of best practice in SEMH provision

We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
