Job Introduction

We are looking for an experienced teacher with a passion for supporting us with all our needs and someone who ‘really cares’. We are seeking someone who will work closely with the leadership team, who will use their leadership skills to manage SEND provision across the academy and to provide support to our family and community. 

 The successful candidate will be: 

  • A warm and caring individual who truly puts our children first 
  • A qualified teacher with experience of working with children with special education needs 
  • Qualified or working towards the SENCo qualification 
  • An effective team player with excellent communication skills 
  • Someone who is able to use their own initiative and lead a small team effectively 
  • Able to build strong and empathetic relationships with pupils, staff and parents 

Key duties: 

  • Help to develop and oversee the implementation of the school's SEND strategy and policy. 
  • Carry out assessments of pupils with SEND to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom and meeting with teachers and parents. 
  • Proactively work with classroom teachers, the school leadership team, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans. 
  • Provide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents. 
  • Make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school - this could include psychologists, health and social care providers, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. 
  • Provide advice, guidance, training and modelling to classroom teachers on supporting pupils with SEND. 
  • Support teachers to develop schemes of work and learning programmes for pupils with SEND. 
  • Support teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroom
  • Be instrumental in writing, collating information and evidencing EHCP’s for children with complex SEND needs. Provide supervision and guidance for staff where required. Advise on the school budget and resources for SEND provision.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Degree and Qualified Teacher Status 
  • National Award for SENCo qualification or similar
  • Experience of working with children with SEND and in writing EHCP’s

 

Skills and knowledge 

  • A willingness to be a lifelong learner
  • Excellent communication skills with both children and adults
  • A commitment and knowledge of how to provide the highest standards of provision for pupils with SEND
  • A working knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies
  • An experienced teacher who is committed to raising standards and furthering their own knowledge and understanding
  • Ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils’ needs
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils and staff
  • Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children
  • Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies
  • Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning
