Job/Person Summary

Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).

We are looking for dynamic new support staff to join our fantastic staff team. We are seeking staff to work with children with additional needs across the school in the afternoons.

Are you resourceful, calm, adaptable and able to make learning fun? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Our SEND LSAs work with children who have Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Provision for these children is planned by their teacher, ably supported by our non-class-based Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion (SENCo), and delivered by our SEND LSAs.

As the needs of our children are varied, we are looking for staff with a range of skills and experiences so that we can match new staff to specific children. Our SEND LSA positions are offered on a fixed term basis as they are linked to the needs of a specific child and are expected to last for the time the child attends our school. However, as a Hampshire County Council employee, your employment rights would be protected over time.

We are looking for new staff to support children whose needs reflect one or more of the main SEN categories:

  • Cognition and learning
  • Communication and interaction
  • Social, emotional and mental health
  • Sensory and physical disabilities

Our children require a mixture of in-class support and individual or small group intervention provision, so training and guidance will be provided to ensure new staff are confident and competent in role. We have a large and successful team of SEND LSAs at our school who meet regularly with our Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion to share good practice and undertake relevant training and development. In addition, new members of staff joining our team are allocated a ‘buddy’ from their team to support them personally.

We have a variety of roles on offer, some to work mornings from 8:30am to 12 noon and some for afternoon sessions 1:00pm to 3:20pm. There would also be an opportunity for applicants to join our Lunchtime Supervisory Team for 5 hours per week resulting in a 3:20pm finish to facilitate a lunch break.

Our SEND LSAs work in close partnership with class teachers, parents, outside agencies and our Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion to promote learning for all children. We are looking for enthusiastic people, preferably with some experience of or interest in working with children with special needs. Successful candidates will work flexibly and creatively with focused objectives to ensure children make good progress across the curriculum. They will have excellent communication skills and the ability to make work fun and engaging. An ability to encourage children to achieve their best and promote independence is essential.

Applicants must have:

  • English and maths to GCSE level

If you would like to join our strong staff team as we strive for excellence, please contact us for an application pack. Visits to our school are warmly welcomed and can be arranged through our admin team. You may also like to visit our website at www.horndeanjuniorschool.co.uk or contact our Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion Amy Piper on 02392 592236 to discuss this opportunity further.
