School Governor

Job Introduction

Uplands Primary School is seeking a committed and community-minded individual to join our Governing Body as a Co-opted Governor.

At Uplands, we believe every child deserves to learn in a safe, inclusive environment where individual strengths are recognised and celebrated. Positive relationships and nurture sit at the heart of our school. Through high-quality teaching and a rich, broad curriculum rooted in our Uplands’ principles, we aim to equip children with the skills and confidence they need for each stage of their academic journey. We are proud to support our pupils to become active, healthy young people who understand the importance of both their own wellbeing and that of others. Our values — Ready, Respect, Safe — underpin everything we do and are embraced by pupils, staff, governors, families, carers and visitors.

We are looking for a member of our wider local community who shares these values and would like to help strengthen our links with the community, while supporting us in ensuring that every child at Uplands receives the very best education.

What does being a governor involve?

As a Co-opted Governor, you will help to:

· Provide strategic oversight of the school’s direction and priorities

· Support and challenge leaders to ensure high standards of education, behaviour and wellbeing

· Oversee the school’s financial performance and ensure funds are well used

· Champion the school’s values and strengthen links within the community

· Ensure the school meets its statutory responsibilities

Time commitment

We ask governors to commit to:

· 6 full governing body meetings per year (evenings)

· Joining either the Finance Committee or Standards Committee, with 3 additional meetings per year

· Carrying out monitoring visits during the school day (spread across the year)

No previous experience in education is required — just enthusiasm, curiosity, and a desire to make a positive difference.
