Job/Person Summary
All children, whatever their individual needs, are entitled to experience a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum and to have equal access to all the opportunities and activities provided at Anton Junior School. We are looking for an someone with a passion for supporting children with special educational needs and their families to join our friendly and supportive team. As part of the school leadership team, you will use your skills to lead and develop the SEND provision across the school and provide support to the teaching and support staff teams.
The successful candidate will be:
- a qualified teacher with experience of working with children with special education needs
- ideally qualified or prepared to work towards the SENCo qualification
- an effective team player with excellent communication skills
- able to build strong relationships with children, staff and families
- a warm and caring individual who truly puts our children first
Key duties:
- To maintain, update and oversee records of SEND support, progress and attainment
- To collect, interpret and make use of assessment data
- To develop, manage, monitor and evaluate appropriate support programmes
- To monitor teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of all children with SEND
- To maintain, continue to develop and oversee the implementation of the school's SEND strategy and policy
- Carry out assessments of children with SEND to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom and meeting with teachers and families
- Work with classroom teachers, the school leadership team, families and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans
- Provide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents; this will include annual reviews and support plan reviews
- Make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school; this could include psychologists, health and social care providers, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists
- Provide advice, guidance and training to classroom teachers and learning support staff on supporting children with SEND
- Support teachers and learning support staff to develop schemes of work and learning programmes for children with SEND
- Support teachers and learning support staff to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroom
- Be instrumental in writing EHCP’s for children with complex SEND needs
- Advise on the resources for SEND provision
