Senior School Site Assistant

Location: Hollywater School
Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Salary: £27,780

About the Role

 

The Senior School Site Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the school environment is safe, secure, clean, and well maintained to support pupils with special educational needs. The post holder will undertake a wide range of site, maintenance, and safety duties, working closely with the School Business Manager (SBM) to respond to reactive maintenance needs, carry out regular site checks, support specialist facilities, and ensure effective procurement of site-related equipment and materials.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Site Maintenance & Operations

 

  • Carry out reactive maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, fixtures, fittings, and outdoor areas 
  • Support planned and preventative maintenance programmes
  • Maintain the cleanliness and general upkeep of the school grounds, including waste management
  • Ensure heating, lighting, water, and ventilation systems are operating effectively 
  • Assist with the setup and clear-down of rooms for lessons, activities, and events 

 

Health, Safety & Compliance

 

  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure a safe environment for pupils, staff, and visitors 
  • Carry out routine health and safety checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, extinguishers, and playground equipment 
  • Monitor water safety systems (including Legionella checks)
  • Identify and respond promptly to hazards, escalating issues where necessary 
  • Ensure health and safety checks are carried out in line with our policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records

 

Security & Site Safety

 

  • Open and lock the school site as required and act as a keyholder 
  • Respond to emergency situations such as alarms, damage, or adverse weather 
  • Support and review site security arrangements to maintain a safe environment 

 

Contractor & Resource Management

 

  • Liaise with external contractors, arrange site visits, and oversee work on site 
  • Ensure contractors follow health and safety requirements 
  • Order and manage site supplies within budget and maintain accurate records 
  • Support stock control and ensure essential materials are available 

 

Specialist Facilities

 

  • Assist with the day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of the school’s hydrotherapy pool, including cleaning, safety checks, and record-keeping 
  • Work with specialist contractors to ensure the facility remains safe and compliant 

 

Transport

 

  • Drive the school minibus where required (subject to appropriate licence) 
  • Support vehicle checks, servicing, and MOT arrangements

 

The school values flexibility and adaptability. The duties of the Site Assistant may evolve in response to operational needs.

We are looking for someone who

 

  • Has experience of caretaking, maintenance or practical site work
  • Can carry out basic DIY and premises tasks safely
  • Understands the importance of health and safety in a school environment
  • Is flexible and able to respond effectively to the needs of the school
  • Is reliable, organised and able to work independently
  • Communicates well and works positively as part of a team
  • Willing to undertake additional training where necessary.
