Norman Gate Primary School (SEND)

We are looking to appoint a reliable and practical Site Assistant to join our friendly team at a specialist primary school for children who have moderate learning difficulties and additional needs such as autism, AHD D, Speech and language needs. 

This is a part‑time role, working 3 days per week from 7.30am to 4.30pm, supporting the day‑to‑day safety, security and upkeep of our school site.

The Role

You will play an important role in helping to maintain a safe, clean and purposeful environment for our pupils, staff and visitors. Working under the direction of the School Business Manager, you will assist with site security, basic maintenance, health and safety checks and the general upkeep of the school.

You will be working in a SEND environment, so a calm, patient and safety focused approach is essential, with an understanding that some pupils may have physical, sensory or emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Opening and securing the school site
  • Carrying out routine health and safety and site checks
  • Maintaining and updating site risk assessments 
  • Supporting basic maintenance, minor repairs and DIY tasks
  • Maintaining outdoor areas, walkways and entrances
  • Preparing rooms for school activities and events
  • Assisting with deliveries and moving equipment
  • Supporting contractors on site
  • Ensuring safeguarding and safety procedures are followed at all times

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience of caretaking, maintenance or practical site work
  • Can carry out basic DIY and premises tasks safely
  • Understands the importance of health and safety in a school environment
  • Is reliable, organised and able to work independently
  • Communicates well and works positively as part of a team
  • Is willing to work in a SEND primary school setting
  • Experience of working in a school or SEND environment is desirable but not essential.
