Job Description: Site Assistant

Location: Andover, Hampshire

Salary: Hampshire County Council Grade D (£27,780 – £29,216 FTE)

Hours: 7:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday

Reporting to: School Business Manager

Purpose of Job

To assist in the provision of a safe, secure, and well-maintained school environment for pupils, staff, and visitors, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements within a special educational needs setting.

Main Responsibilities

Premises & Maintenance

  • Undertake general maintenance, repairs, and minor improvements across the school site
  • Ensure upkeep of buildings, fixtures, fittings, and outdoor areas
  • Assist with room setups and movement of furniture and equipment
  • Support grounds maintenance including litter control and basic gardening
  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of the school and its pupils

Health & Safety

  • Comply with and support the school Health & Safety Policy
  • Carry out routine inspections of premises and equipment
  • Carry out regular health and safety checks, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records
  • Support fire safety procedures and ensure hazards are addressed promptly
  • Work in accordance with the school’s Asbestos Management Plan carrying out checks

Contractor Support

  • Assist with supervision of contractors on site
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and health & safety requirements
  • Maintain records of contractor visits and works

Security

  • Open and close the school site daily
  • Maintain site security and challenge unauthorised access
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies

 

About You

 

  • You have strong practical skills and enjoy fixing and maintaining things
  • You are a self-starter with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • You have a positive, can-do attitude and take pride in your work
  • You enjoy active, outdoor work and are comfortable working across a busy school site
  • You are able to manage contractors effectively and respond to the needs of a school environment
  • You are able to identify site safety issues and act accordingly to ensure the safeguarding of all on site.
  • Experience in a similar role is an advantage, but not essential – full training will be provided for the right applicant
