Job Introduction
St John the Baptist Primary School are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dedicated, hands-on professional Site Manager to join our team of dedicated staff and wonderful children. The successful candidate will maintain our school site, buildings and grounds, to the highest possible standard, proactively enhancing our facilities. They will ensure the school is safe, clean and well maintained for pupils, staff, parents and visitors. The individual will be practical and able to adapt their skills to the needs of the school and prioritise health, safety and security at all times.
The ideal candidate will be hard working, dependable, trustworthy, use their own initiative and be flexible in their approach to their duties. A range of practical and DIY skills are essential to ensure the school is safe and well maintained. Knowledge of health and safety would also be desirable.
Ideally this is a fulltime role with a split shift, however hours and split shift are negotiable for the right candidate.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring the safe and efficient running of the school.
- Being responsible for site security including the daily opening and closing of the school, occasionally working outside normal hours for school events, including out of hours/ emergency call outs, and be the principal key holder.
- Completing maintenance tasks to a good standard.
- Manage the school site, grounds and buildings working in partnership with the Business Manager.
- Manage and co-ordinate school employed cleaners to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment.
- Liaise and manage a programme of planned and preventative maintenance undertaking minor repairs, maintenance, and redecoration.
- Liaising with school staff, external suppliers, and contractors to coordinate site-related projects.
- Overseeing the work of external contractors, ensuring standards are maintained, with health and safety being always paramount.
- Carrying out H&S inspections, assessments and compliance checks.
- Maintain the grounds so that they are in a clean and tidy condition.
- Fire safety, COSHH, Legionella, Risk Assessments (training provided).
- Supporting the school’s sustainability efforts, including energy efficiency initiatives.
- Able to keep records of tests and checks as required, using paper, email and online systems.
- Take responsibility for stock control and ordering of cleaning products and maintenance items.
- Understand and adhere to the school’s policies and procedures in relation to child protection and safeguarding.
The successful candidate will:
- Possess practical maintenance skills and the ability to perform minor repairs.
- Be organised, self-motivated, and capable of working independently.
- Have a high degree of personal pride in their work.
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with staff, contractors, and the wider community.
