Use Your Practical Skills and Initiative to Keep Our Pupils Safe, Supported, and Thriving
Henry Tyndale School is a successful and growing special school for pupils aged 2–19 with complex learning needs. We are seeking flexible, hands-on and proactive Site Operatives to help us maintain safe, high-quality learning environments across our expanding multi-site provision.
Whether you’re looking for full-time, part-time or more flexible hours across days, evenings or weekends, we’re open to working with the right candidates – especially those with relevant trade experience and a strong sense of personal responsibility.
Your Role Will Include:
- Providing day-to-day site maintenance, caretaking and repair services to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment.
- Carrying out repairs and minor improvements using practical or trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, decorating or electrical maintenance.
- Taking the initiative to identify and act on maintenance needs before they become problems – whether it's a loose hinge, a leaking pipe, or a potential hazard.
- Using your trade experience (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electrical, decorating) to carry out in-house improvements and repairs.
- Supporting the setup of learning spaces, movement of furniture and equipment, and preparation for events or lettings.
- Completing statutory and mandatory duties including fire alarm testing, water temperature logs, building compliance checks and secure locking procedures.
- Working across school sites and responding flexibly to a varied and evolving workload.
- Being a visible, proactive presence who contributes to the smooth daily running of the school and the safety of pupils and staff.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Has strong practical and trade-based skills, ideally with professional qualifications or demonstrable experience or the willingness to train to gain practical skills.
- Shows initiative, attention to detail, and pride in delivering quality work.
- Is solution focused – actively looks for ways to improve, prevent problems, and keep things running efficiently.
- Understands the importance of site compliance, health & safety, and safeguarding.
- Works well independently but values being part of a supportive team.
- Can travel between our local school sites as needed.
- Wants to contribute meaningfully to a setting that supports vulnerable children and young people.
Why Henry Tyndale?
- Be part of a warm, inclusive, and pupil-focused special school.
- Apply your trade and maintenance skills in a high-impact environment where your work truly matters.
- Flexible working options to suit your availability – including term-time and school holiday opportunities.
- Full training provided for school-specific duties and statutory responsibilities.
- Join a team that values reliability, initiative, and proactive problem-solving.
