Denmead Infant School is a popular and inclusive village infant school set in a welcoming community environment. Known for being child-centred and family-focused, we pride ourselves on nurturing every child’s academic and social development in a supportive, friendly atmosphere.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join us. This role offers the unique opportunity to work closely with teachers to support the academic and social progress of our children, helping to create a positive and stimulating learning environment. This post is a fixed term post.
Key responsibilities:
- work in partnership with the class teacher to support children’s learning and development
- work 1-2-1 with children or small groups with SEN needs and Looked After children.
- assist with classroom activities, both academic and social, ensuring all children feel included and supported
- help maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive classroom environment
- contribute to ongoing assessment and feedback on pupil progress
- participate in relevant professional development opportunities to enhance your skills

We are looking for someone who:
- has experience of working with young SEND children in an educational setting
- has the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff to support pupils’ academic and social progress
- has enthusiasm for working in a child-centred, community-focused school
- has good communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents
- has patience, kindness, and a nurturing approach to supporting children’s needs
- has the ability to contribute positively to a team and the wider school community
- has flexibility, adaptability and a positive, can-do attitude that encourages children
- has commitment to maintaining high standards of learning and behaviour and in helping every child succeed
- is keen to learn and develop their own knowledge and skills to support children’s learning
The successful candidate(s) will have English and Maths qualifications to at least GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent.
