Specialist SEND Teacher

Job Introduction

Salary: Main Scale/Upper Pay Scale

Hours:  Part Time (0.6 FTE)

Contract: Temporary until the end of July 26

Responsible to: SENDCo

Start: As soon as possible

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Specialist SEND Teacher. You will be part of an exciting opportunity to mould Tanners Brook’s provision for children with high needs, playing a vital role in embedding inclusive practice across the school. This will be a key role within the school, supporting children with a range of complex and multiple needs including autism, SEMH, sensory processing and communication difficulties.

You will work across the school to plan and deliver individualised support and structured interventions, adapting activities and resources to meet the unique needs of each pupil. You will be expected to provide high-quality specialist support, including implementing personalised strategies, while also contributing to the review and development of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

This role also involves modelling effective practice for staff, offering guidance and coaching to support inclusive classroom strategies, and liaising closely with the SENDCo, external professionals, class teachers, and families.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, calm and emotionally intelligent, with a genuine passion for inclusion and a strong commitment to supporting children with complex needs.   A good understanding of autism, SEMH and sensory needs is essential, and confidence using approaches such as PECS, Makaton, Attention Autism or Zones of Regulation would be highly advantageous.

You should be confident in working closely with families, contributing to EHCP planning and reviews, and supporting the development of other staff through modelling and coaching. Above all, you must be passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and families and committed to the inclusive values that define our school.

This post is ideal for someone with

  • A deep understanding of autism, SEMH, sensory processing and communication needs
  • The resilience and skill to support children with EHCPs and complex learning profiles
  • A passion for inclusion and the confidence to lead provision within our alternative pathway
  • Excellent organisation skills (the ability to organise your own time and that of others)
  • A track record of coaching/mentoring and experience of line management
