Teacher of Design and Technology

Job Introduction

The Trust would like to appoint an enthusiastic Design and Technology Teacher to join our team at Thornden School.  The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual who will be passionate about Design and Technology.

Within the Technology department at Thornden, we offer a wide range of courses that come under the Technology umbrella. In Key stage 3, students follow modular courses in the key material areas within Design & Technology. These include: Food, Graphics, Systems/Engineering, Textiles and Resistant Materials. We are a very popular choice for our students at GCSE level. We offer GCSE Design & Technology in Paper & Boards, Timbers and Textiles, GCSE Engineering and GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition. The successful candidate will need to be able to teach a wide range of the material areas at Key Stage three. However, applications are welcome from candidates who specialise in any of the following: Engineering, D&T Timbers, or D&T Paper & Boards at Key Stage 4 GCSE level.

About the role:

  • Deliver high-quality Design and Technology lessons to Key Stage 3 and 4 students
  • Support the department in raising and maintaining high standards of student attainment and achievement
  • Promote active learning, monitor progress, and be accountable for student progress in Design and Technology
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment, aligned with safeguarding practices
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and participate in departmental activities, including trips and open days.

We are seeking an individual who has:

  • A degree in a relevant subject and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven experience teaching or training in a comprehensive school setting, covering Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Competence in teaching at least one of the following to GCSE level: Graphics/Paper and Boards, Engineering, or Timbers
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding practices, classroom management skills, and the ability to foster a safe learning environment
  • Emotional resilience, professionalism, and a collaborative mindset, with excellent communication skills.
